The Huntley Villas Canggu Review: Bali’s Beautiful New Vintage Villas
With new villas and hotels popping up all over Canggu seemingly every month, The Huntley Villas stands out as one of those rare properties that actually delivers on the hype. For the Huntley Villas Canggu review, we’re sharing our honest experience at this boutique villa property
The Huntley Villas Canggu is tucked away on a quiet street in Berawa, just behind the main Jalan Pantai Berawa street on the way to Finns Beach Club & Atlas Super Club. It feels like someone took the best bits of a vintage Californian resort and dropped it into the tropical chaos of Canggu. Think mid-century design with marble finishes, private pools, and enough bougainvillea to make your Instagram happy, but without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with places trying this hard to look good.
The property itself is also a photographer’s dream – keep scrolling to check out all the stunning photos of this brand new hotel below.

About The Huntley Villas Canggu
The Huntley opened its doors in late 2025, making it one of the newest additions to Canggu’s competitive villa scene. It’s the sister property to The Cali Villas, another popular spot in the Canggu area that’s been quietly dominating since 2022 with a 90% occupancy rate. The same team behind The Cali brought their vision to The Huntley, and you can tell they learned a thing or two from their first go-around.
The design inspiration comes straight from vintage Californian resorts, which is a refreshing departure from the usual Balinese-meets-bohemian aesthetic you see everywhere in Canggu. We’re talking mid-century lines, warm beige tones, and satisfying retro details that make everything feel a bit more sophisticated. The marble finishes, terrazzo accents, and carefully curated furnishings give the whole place a Palm Springs-in-the-tropics vibe. It’s very intentional, and it works very well.
Location
The Huntley sits in Berawa, which is technically part of Canggu but feels a bit more chill than the main strip. For those keeping track, Canggu has become Bali’s newest and hippest area over the past few years, packed with beach clubs, restaurants, cafes, and seemingly a new coworking space opening every week. It’s the kind of place where everyone’s either a digital nomad, a surf instructor, or pretending to be one of those things.
The location is a bit of a sweet spot for anyone wondering where to stay in Canggu. We were walking distance to two of Bali’s biggest beach clubs, Finns Beach Club and Atlas Beach Club, which meant we could stumble home after sunset sessions without dealing with Gojek surge pricing. The villa is on a quiet residential street, so you get the peace and privacy you actually want, but you’re still close enough to the action that nothing feels like a mission to reach. You’re right in the middle of many amazing restaurants, with many within walking distance, and a lot just around the corner (our favorites being Copenhagen Cafe and Longtime restaurant).
Now for the reality check about Canggu in general: it has become somewhat a victim of its own success, with its rapid development over the past 5-10 years outpacing the infrastructure capacity. The roads in and out of Canggu can be absolutely brutal especially around the holiday: full of cars and motorbikes creating traffic jams that add literal hours to what should be simple journeys.
Getting to the villa from the airport is only about 18 kilometers, but that drive can be anywhere from 30 minutes on a miracle day with zero traffic, to over two hours when the traffic gods are against you during christmas holidays. Time of year, weather, and whether there’s a beach club event happening all play into this chaos. It’s worth knowing this going in, because sitting in Bali traffic is nobody’s idea of a vacation.
Our advice? When staying here, don’t stray too far from the area. Eat at restaurants around the Canggu area, do your activities locally, and embrace the neighborhood. Venturing out to Seminyak for dinner or Ubud for the day can land you in hours of traffic if you’re not careful. The good news is that Canggu has more than enough to keep you busy, so there’s really no need to leave unless you’re heading to the airport.
Arrival, First Impressions and Check-In
We rolled up to The Huntley around 12:45pm and the exterior stopped us in our tracks. The large frontage of the building has this classic, imposing presence on the street that immediately sets it apart from the typical Canggu villa. It’s got the vintage resort aesthetic dialed in from the second you see it, which made for a great first impression before we’d even walked through the door.
There’s no real driveway to speak of, so our driver just pulled up out front to unload our bags. Taxis, Grabs and Gojek drivers all do the same – you just hop out on the street in front of the hotel, which is pretty standard for Canggu properties anyway.
Reception sits at the front of the complex. It’s compact but functional, nothing fancy or oversized. We handed over our passports and filled in some check-in paperwork. Since we’d arrived before the 2:00pm check-in time, our room wasn’t quite ready yet, which was fair enough. The staff were upfront about it and suggested we grab lunch while they finished prepping the villa. We wandered off for some tacos and tequila at Agave & Azul just around the corner to kill some time.
Right at 2:00pm, we got a WhatsApp message from the front desk letting us know our room was ready. We headed back, and the actual check-in process from there was smooth and straightforward. The lovely receptionist walked us to our villa while our bags were brought over separately, which was a nice touch. During the short walk, they ran through the essentials like WiFi details, housekeeping schedule, gym facilities, and how everything in the villa worked.
The Property and Grounds
The property itself deserves some attention because The Huntley nailed the aesthetic from the moment you walk through the entrance. The vintage Californian design isn’t just limited to the villas themselves, it’s woven throughout the entire complex in a way that feels cohesive and intentional.
At the front of the property near reception sits a beautiful tiered fountain surrounded by lush tropical gardens. It’s a feature that immediately sets the tone; the warm beige stonework, the sound of trickling water, and perfectly manicured greenery creating that Palm Springs-meets-Bali vibe they’re clearly going for. The fountain area is where the planned Parque Café will eventually sit, and you can already see how that space will become a natural gathering spot once it opens.
The pathway throughout the complex winds through tropical gardens filled with palm trees, banana plants, and vibrant bougainvillea spilling over walls. During the day, it’s all sunshine and shadows playing off the architecture’s curved arches and clean lines. At night, the pathways are softly lit, giving the whole property a romantic, resort-like atmosphere that makes wandering back to your villa after dinner feel special rather than just functional.
The architecture itself is striking. Those signature arched windows and doorways, the warm sand-colored walls, the carefully placed greenery softening the modern lines, it all works together to create something that not only photographs beautifully, but also just feels good to be in. It’s clear a lot of thought went into making this more than just a place to sleep.
The Villas
The Huntley is made up of 13 individual villas arranged in a hotel-style setting, which is an interesting setup that gives you the best of both worlds. Each villa is completely separate and self-contained with its own entrance, private courtyard, and private pool, so you get that sense of having your own space. But unlike a standalone villa rental, you’ve also got reception, daily housekeeping, and all the conveniences of a proper hotel backing you up.
You can choose from one, two, three, or four-bedroom villas depending on your group size. The four-bedroom option is the real showstopper, with its own wellness area on the top floor that includes a small gym, jacuzzi, and rooftop patio. For our stay, we booked the two-bedroom deluxe villa, which was villa number three. Each bedroom came with a king bed and its own private bathroom, which made it feel properly spacious for two couples or a family.
The layout of our two-bedroom villa worked well. The ground floor is where you’ll spend most of your time, with the lounge, living, and kitchen area flowing out to the pool and outdoor patio. A spiral staircase in the middle takes you up to the bedrooms on the upper level, which adds a bit of architectural drama to the space.
Inside the villa, there’s a small kitchenette with a stovetop and fridge-freezer combo, plus some basic cooking gear: one pan, one pot, cutlery, plates, and glasses. It’s enough if you want to make breakfast or heat something up, but this isn’t the kind of kitchen where you’re going to be cooking elaborate meals.
As is the case everywhere in Bali, the tap water isn’t drinkable, though it’s fine for showering and washing. The villa has a large jug of bottled water in the kitchen, the kind you’d see on water coolers, with a small motorized pump attached to dispense clean drinking water for drinking and cooking. The staff replaces this when it’s empty, so you should always have drinkable water on hand.
The fridge includes a minibar stocked with complimentary items: two beers, four soft drinks, chips, nuts, a KitKat, plus tea and single-serve drip coffee bags. What’s notably missing, though, is a coffee machine. There’s a kettle and toaster, but we feel this was a missed opportunity for a luxury villa at this level. A Nespresso machine would’ve elevated the whole in-villa experience, because let’s be honest, instant coffee just doesn’t hit the same.
Each bedroom has a closet with a safe, robes, slippers, and an umbrella tucked inside, plus its own TV. There’s also a TV in the main living room, so entertainment is covered wherever you end up lounging. The staff can provide a Bluetooth speaker on request if you want to set the vibe by the pool, though there are noise regulations in place, so you’ll need to keep things quieter after 11pm.
The bathrooms are where The Huntley really shows off. Each one has a freestanding bath plus a walk-in shower, with gold trim accents on the taps and square tiles that complement the marble countertops. It’s all very photogenic and feels properly luxe. The pillows deserve a specific mention, they’re plush and genuinely luxurious, which somewhat made up for the firm mattresses. The linens felt high quality too, which isn’t always a given even at nicer properties.
But there are a few practical downsides we need to mention. The firm beds were a real issue for all four of us, nobody in our group found them comfortable. The curtain situation in the bedrooms is also problematic. There are no sheer curtains or proper blackout curtains, just one curtain that sits somewhere in between. It’s not enough to block out the sunrise, so you’ll likely be woken up pretty early by light streaming through. If you’re a light sleeper or value sleeping in, this could be annoying – it was for us.
The bathrooms also lack hanging hooks entirely, with just one towel rail, which made hanging towels or wet clothes a bit of a puzzle. The WiFi also had issues in the bedrooms, not working properly on several occasions, though it worked fine downstairs in the living area. These aren’t dealbreakers, but they’re the kind of small issues that stand out at a property of this caliber.
The whole setup at The Huntley Villas Canggu feels geared toward shorter, hotel-type stays rather than the month-long digital nomad situation. Not that you couldn’t stay longer if you wanted to, the villas are certainly comfortable enough for it, but the vibe and pricing structure suggest they’re targeting people who want a few nights of luxury rather than someone looking to set up a temporary home office for weeks on end.
Amenities at The Huntley Villas Canggu
Every of The Huntley’s villas has its own private swimming pool, which is a fantastic feature that means you’re never fighting for space or dealing with other guests. The pools are a proper size too, not just decorative plunge pools. Our two-bedroom villa came with two sun loungers, which was oddly not enough for the four of us staying there. It’s a strange oversight for a villa that sleeps four people. There were a couple of deck chairs as backup, plus an outdoor table with four chairs that was perfect for morning breakfast or evening drinks by the pool.
The complex has its own gym that’s exclusive to the 13 villas, and it’s genuinely one of the better hotel gyms we’ve come across in Canggu. In the wellness and health-centric world of Canggu, it’s probably not out of place, but for a small boutique property, it punches above its weight.
The equipment is modern and well-maintained, with squat racks, weight plates, dumbbells, kettle bells, treadmills, a stepper machine, cable machine, benches, and more. It’s properly equipped for actual workouts, not just the token treadmill and yoga mat situation you often get at hotels. There’s even a small fridge stocked with bottled water and toilet & shower on site, so you’ve got everything you need. The fact that it’s only shared among 13 villas means it never felt crowded – notably whenever we went, there was nobody else in the gym.
Restaurants and Dining
The Huntley Villas Canggu is planning to open an on-site restaurant called Parque Café at the front of the property opposite reception, but it wasn’t operational during our stay in January 2026. The receptionist mentioned it was still another two to three months away from opening. It’s a bit of a gap in the offering for now, especially if you’re hoping to just roll out of your villa for breakfast or a casual dinner without leaving the property.
In the meantime, the hotel has arrangements with some local restaurants to fill the void. There’s a menu from Ghost restaurant, which is just down the road, available at reception. They also offer 10% off at all Milk & Madu Group venues, including Milk & Madu, Watercress, Ulekan, and The Common, most of which are within walking distance of the hotel. These are all solid Canggu spots, so the partnership makes sense.
The standout option is the in-villa breakfast service courtesy of Milk & Madu. You can have breakfast delivered right to your villa, which means not having to go anywhere other than your own living room. It’s 250,000 IDR per person, plus 10% tax and 6% service, so it comes to about 290,000 IDR per person (roughly $18 USD). There are definitely many cheaper breakfast options around Canggu, but none are more convenient than eating poolside in your bathrobe. For lazy mornings or when you just can’t be bothered dealing with Canggu traffic, it’s worth the premium.
Service
All the staff at The Huntley were lovely, constantly smiling, happy, and greeting us every time we crossed paths, which really added to the warm atmosphere of the place. There’s daily housekeeping between 9am and 3:30pm, which meant our villa was tidied up and refreshed each day without feeling intrusive. Coffee and tea supplies were replenished daily as part of this service, so we never ran out.
One thing to note: there are no phones in the villas. All communication with reception happens via WhatsApp or by walking over to talk to them directly. We had to get a couple of things fixed and sorted during our stay, including an issue with our shower filter, and it all had to be done through WhatsApp. The staff happily and easily solved everything for us without any fuss. Whenever we brought something to the front desk, they’d say “leave it with us,” which freed us up to continue with our day rather than waiting around. It was a refreshing touch and reminiscent of quality service you’d expect at much higher-end properties.
The hotel provides a laundry service where your clothes can be taken away and returned clean for a reasonable price. We got a couple of kilograms done for 125,000 IDR (about $8 USD / $12 AUD), which felt fair for the convenience. If you want to save a bit of money, there’s also a laundry service shop just a few stores down from the hotel that can provide the same service at similar rates.
There’s 24-hour security on site, and staff greet guests upon arrival, which adds to that hotel-like feel even though you’re in a private villa.
Overall, the service was decent and we had no complaints. It’s not the kind of over-the-top luxury service where staff are anticipating your every need, but it’s professional, warm, and gets the job done without any issues.
Pricing and Value for Money
We paid 6,000,000 IDR per night (approximately $375 USD / $600 AUD) for our three-night stay in the two-bedroom deluxe villa. Our stay was right after New Year on January 2nd, so we were paying peak season rates. Outside of these busy periods, prices for the same two-bedroom deluxe villa typically range between 4,500,000 and 5,500,000 IDR per night ($280-$345 USD / $450-$550 AUD), which is more reasonable. The one-bedroom villas are even more affordable at around 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 IDR per night ($190-$250 USD / $300-$400 AUD) outside peak times, making them a solid option for couples.
At the rate we paid, and even at the regular pricing, we’d say The Huntley offers good value for money. The property itself is genuinely beautiful, with that vintage Californian resort aesthetic executed really well. You’re getting a private villa with your own pool, marble bathrooms, high-quality finishes, daily housekeeping, and access to a proper gym, all in a prime Berawa location. That works out to around 2,250,000 to 3,000,000 IDR per bedroom per night depending on when you book, which feels fair for what you’re getting.
The design and attention to detail set The Huntley apart from a lot of other options in Canggu. While there are some minor drawbacks we’ve mentioned throughout this review, the overall package is strong, especially for a property that’s this new and well-maintained. If you’re looking for somewhere that photographs well, feels luxurious, and gives you that private villa experience with hotel-level service, The Huntley delivers. And if you’re specifically after somewhere in the trendy Berawa area of Canggu with access to great restaurants and walkable distance to beach clubs, this is one of the best options.
Final Recommendation
Overall Rating: 9/10
We’d give The Huntley Villas Canggu a solid 9 out of 10. It’s an impressive property that gets so much right, from the stunning vintage Californian design to the private pools, excellent gym, and prime Berawa location. The staff are friendly, the villas are spacious and beautifully finished, and the whole experience feels like a proper luxury escape without being pretentious about it.
That said, it loses a point for a few notable misses. The firm beds were genuinely uncomfortable for all four of us, the lack of proper blackout curtains meant early wake-ups whether we wanted them or not, and the absence of a coffee machine in a villa at this level felt like an oversight. These aren’t dealbreakers, but they’re the kind of details that would push this from great to exceptional.
Would we stay at The Huntley Villas Canggu again? Absolutely. Would we recommend it to friends looking for the best villas in Canggu? Without hesitation. The Huntley is one of the best new properties in the area, and if you’re after that perfect mix of privacy, style, and convenience in Berawa with walking distance to Finns Beach Club and Atlas Beach Club, it’s hard to beat. Just pack your own eye mask and you’ll be golden.
