We’d been planning our Dolomites trip when Hotel Recort’s Instagram photos started popping up on our feed. Here’s everything you need to know about what might just become your new favorite mountain retreat. Spoiler alert: it might just be our favorite Italian hotel that we’ve stayed at.

Hotel Recort – A Legacy of Love and Vision

Hotel Recort opened its doors in December 2024 as the newest luxury hotel in Alta Badia’s mountain region. This isn’t just another luxury hotel trying to capitalize on the Dolomites tourism boom. Hotel Recort has a real story behind it – it’s a tribute to Gottfried, the tourism pioneer who built the Impianti Colfosco cable car company while dreaming of creating the perfect mountain hotel. The name “Recort” means “reminiscence” in Ladin, the local Dolomites language, which gives you a sense of how deeply this place connects to its mountain heritage.

Location: Hotel Recort’s Prime Position in Alta Badia

Colfosco’s Strategic Location

Nestled in the charming town of Colfosco within the renowned Alta Badia ski region, Hotel Recort enjoys an enviable position that’s hard to beat. You know how some hotels claim they have great mountain access but you end up driving 20 minutes to get anywhere decent? Not here. Hotel Recort sits literally steps from the Sodlisia chairlift in Colfosco. During our summer visit, we used those lifts for hiking access, but imagine how perfect this must be for skiers in winter – true ski-in, ski-out luxury.

While located just off the main road, Hotel Recort’s elevated position on a hillside provides guests with breathtaking panoramic views across the valley without the traffic noise. The authentic mountain experience is enhanced by the sight and sound of cows grazing in the grassy paddocks directly in front of the hotel, their traditional cow bells creating a peaceful alpine soundtrack.

Colfosco is a small town, just outside of Corvara which is main center of the prestigious tourist area of Alta Badia. Both towns have limited restaurants and shops – but you’re here for the nature and the mountains, not shopping.

Accessibility and Nearby Attractions

Hotel Recort’s location offers excellent connectivity to major Dolomites destinations. It’s approximately one hour’s drive west from Cortina d’Ampezzo, the joint host city for the 2026 Winter Olympics (with Milan), making it an ideal base for exploring the region’s most famous peaks and trails.

This hotel was our base for hiking Tre Cime, Cinque Torri and visiting Lago di Brais. It’s also perfectly perched 15 minutes drive from the top of Val Gardena.

Free underground parking is included, eliminating any concerns about vehicle security or weather exposure. For ski enthusiasts, the location is particularly perfect as the Sodlisia chairlift is literally steps away, meaning you’ll never need to drive or search for parking to access the slopes.

Also in the carpark is dedicated ski and bike storage, plus a dog wash station (since the hotel is pet-friendly).

Summed Up In a few words…

An extraordinary boutique luxury hotel in the heart of the Dolomites that will be your perfect mountain retreat.

First Impressions: Hotel Recort’s Warm Welcome

After a full day hiking at Tre Cime, we were tired, dusty, and ready to collapse into luxury. We rolled up to Hotel Recort around 4pm, and honestly, the experience started better than we expected. They’d asked for our license plate number ahead of time, so we drove straight into the underground garage without any fuss. A bellhop in crisp uniform met us at the entrance and whisked away our hiking gear while we got our first proper look at the property.

Check-in felt more like arriving at a friend’s incredibly fancy mountain house than a hotel. After the usual passport routine at reception, they invited us to sit in these plush lounge chairs facing floor-to-ceiling windows. Then something happened that we’ve never experienced before – the bartender walked over and offered us complimentary welcome drinks: beer, sparkling wine or fresh juice.

We went with the beer and sparkling wine (obviously) and sat there sipping bubbles while staring out at the most ridiculous mountain views. All that travel exhaustion? Gone in about five minutes.

Accommodation: Hotel Recort’s Superior Rooms with Stunning Views

Room Categories and Layout

Hotel Recort only has 20 rooms total, which creates this intimate boutique feel that big resort hotels can’t match. We booked a superior room, and honestly, we’re glad we splurged. Walking in, your eyes go straight to those massive windows and the bed positioned to face them perfectly. Every morning we woke up to panoramic views of the valley, Colfosco town below, and the dramatic peaks of Piz Boe and Parco Naturale Puez Odle.

Room Features and Amenities

The bed itself was exactly what you want after long mountain days – big, comfortable, with premium bedding and those separate European covers that take some getting used to but actually make sense. The bathroom impressed us most though. Huge rainfall shower, dual sinks with this gorgeous round mirror, separate toilet area, and towels so fluffy they felt like clouds. They provided robes in two sizes, which seems like a small detail but shows they actually think about their guests.

Tech-wise, the room had this cool flatscreen TV that swivels automatically with the remote, so you can watch from bed or the sofa area behind it. The Nespresso machine got a workout every morning, and the minibar prices weren’t the usual highway robbery you expect at luxury hotels. Storage was generous with a large wardrobe and in-room safe, plus they gave us a dedicated makeup desk that doubled as a workspace.

Our private balcony became our evening hangout spot. Comfortable chairs, a proper table, and those views that never got old. Morning coffee out there, evening aperitifs, just sitting and soaking in the Dolomites magic.

There is one notable point to mention though – the lack of air conditioning. In a brand-new luxury hotel opening in 2024, this feels like an oversight. Sure, many hotels traditionally don’t have AC in Europe, and especially in the mountains where it is cooler, but summers are getting hotter and guests expect comfort. Opening the balcony door was our only cooling option, which invited mosquitos and fly in the valley to join us. We ended up opening the large sliding door and covering the opening with the see-through curtain to keep the bugs at bay. Not the best but we made it work.

Wellness Amenities at Hotel Recort: Impressive Facilities with Limited Hours

Pool and Spa Facilities

The wellness area is one of Hotel Recort’s best features. The large heated indoor pool serves as the centerpiece, surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and featuring two separate sunrooms filled with additional seating options.

The outdoor area continues the relaxation theme with more sun loungers and a heated outdoor spa that offers jaw-dropping views of the surrounding mountain landscapes. The combination of warm water and alpine vistas creates an almost magical experience.

Additional Wellness Options

Complementing the pool area, there is a steam room and sauna that fit perfectly with the mountain aesthetic, all wood and stone and cozy lighting.

Fitness Facilities

The basic gym, located downstairs with pool views, offers essential equipment including a premium treadmill, workout bench, and dumbbells. While not extensively equipped, the space maintains the hotel’s design philosophy with wooden trim details that reinforce the mountain cabin ambiance.

Spa Services

Adjacent to the pool area, the spa offers various treatments including massages and foot pedicures. After long days of skiing, hiking, or biking, these services provide the perfect way to unwind and rejuvenate. We did not sample the spa services during our short stay but they looked excellent from the spa menu we were provided.

Wine Storage

The second floor houses a wine cellar for guests who wish to store quality wines or add to their personal collections during their stay – a thoughtful touch that reflects Hotel Recort’s attention to detail.

Operational Limitations

Despite the impressive facilities, the limited operating hours significantly impact the overall experience. The indoor pool operates only from 10am to 8pm. On our last day I asked about going for an early morning swim before check out but was denied, telling us that it was closed for cleaning. For guests who enjoy early morning swims, this restriction proves disappointing.

Even more limiting, the outdoor whirlpool, steam room, and sauna operate only from 3pm to 8pm. These shortened hours seem particularly restrictive for a wellness-focused hotel, especially considering these facilities generally operate unattended. For anyone wanting to relax at the hotel for a day, the restricted hours means being somewhat limited in what you can do.

The timing also creates a weird conflict with dinner service running from 7-8pm, which means all wellness facilities close right when you’d want that post-dinner soak or steam session after big mountain days.

Additional Amenities

The underground parking area includes dedicated ski and bike storage, plus convenient bike wash and doggie wash stations for active guests and their pets.

Dining: Fine Dining Meets Mountain Soul

Hotel Recort’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the bar staying open from 7:30am until 1am. We booked half-board, which included breakfast and four-course dinners each night. It is also possible to book full board (including lunch) or only breakfast. For us, the half-board option was only slightly more expensive than breakfast, so it was almost a no brainer to book it.

The bartenders really knew their craft – creative cocktails and deep spirit knowledge. Their in-house sommelier guided us through an impressive wine collection with spot-on recommendations during dinner service.

Breakfast hit the sweet spot between continental buffet and cooked-to-order items. Good bread selection, quality cereals and yogurts, plus hot options like eggs any style, crepes, and pancakes. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid fuel for mountain adventures.

Dinner deserves the “fine dining” label they’re going for. Most courses offered multiple choices, and the kitchen showed real skill and creativity. Though not every dish knocked it out of the park, but most of the dishes were excellent.

Our favorite night was their Ladin cultural dinner celebrating the local Dolomites heritage – remember, “Recort” means “reminiscence” in Ladin. They set up a buffet appetizer station with regional meats, salamis, and these incredible fried spinach and potato dumplings. Then came three courses: mezzeline stuffed with spinach and ricotta in the most perfect butter sauce, traditional geröstl with cabbage salad, and ricotta strudel that made us understand why Austrian desserts have such a reputation.

Other memorable dishes from our dinners:

  • Spaghetti alla Gricia – one of my favorites
  • Braised beef cheek with potato puree and chanterelle mushrooms
  • Crispy rice with Asian marinated tuna
  • Radicello risotto and duo of guinea fowl with horseradish puree

The creativity and execution impressed us throughout our stay.

There was one thing to consider though: as a four course fine dining dinner, the dinner service stretch to nearly 2 hours on most nights. After long hikes during the day, we sometimes wanted good food but without the lengthy timings so we could relax more, but it wasn’t always possible with the half-board option.

It should also be noted that there was no room service and no poolside food service – it didn’t bother us, but it’s just something to be aware of if that’s what you’re looking for in a hotel stay.

Service at Hotel Recort

Hotel Recort’s staff consistently deliver service with genuine warmth and professionalism. Every team member we encountered maintained high standards and appeared genuinely invested in ensuring guest satisfaction.

The sommelier’s expertise extends beyond wine to cocktails, providing valuable guidance for both evening drinks and meal pairings. The concierge gave us extensive local knowledge, offering helpful recommendations for restaurants, activities, and area attractions.

The front desk staff proved particularly helpful, going above and beyond to assist with restaurant reservations and local logistics. They even tried calling a restaurant in Florence multiple times to get us a reservation at our next stop on our Italian road trip.

Restaurant Service

While restaurant wait staff generally performed well, service could become stretched when the dining room reached capacity. Despite occasional delays, the team maintained professionalism and quality throughout busy periods.

Housekeeping

Daily room cleaning maintained high standards, ensuring comfortable accommodations throughout our stay.

What Made Our Stay Special

Hotel Recort succeeds in ways that matter most for a mountain retreat. The location gives you immediate access to outdoor adventures while delivering those postcard-perfect Dolomites views that never get old. Everything feels fresh and contemporary since the property just opened, but they’ve thoughtfully maintained authentic alpine character and meaningful connections to Ladin culture.

Our room provided the perfect base – spacious, comfortable, and designed around those incredible mountain vistas. The adults-only policy (dogs welcome, which we loved seeing) creates a peaceful atmosphere that works perfectly for romantic getaways or wellness-focused trips.

The wellness facilities, despite their limited hours, offer genuine relaxation in a spectacular setting. There’s something magical about soaking in that outdoor spa while surrounded by the Dolomites.

Where Hotel Recort Needs Work

The wellness facility hours are our main complaint, though honestly, it’s something they can easily change and we really hope they do. These restrictions limit what should be amazing amenities, especially for guests who book specifically for relaxation and recovery after mountain activities.

Summer stays suffer from the lack of air conditioning and can result in some incoming insects when you open windows for cooling. For a brand new luxury hotel opening in 2024, this feels like a oversight, but you can still easily make do. If you don’t mind a couple of flies here and there then you’ll be fine.

Should You Stay at Hotel Recort?

Despite the spa hour limitations, we absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Recort. This hotel delivers a sophisticated adults-only mountain experience that impressed us in all the ways that matter most. The combination of prime location steps from the Sodlisia chairlift, thoughtfully designed rooms with spectacular views, and genuine hospitality creates one of Alta Badia’s most compelling new options.

Perfect for:

  • Those wanting peaceful, adults-only surroundings (dogs welcome!)
  • Couples seeking luxury mountain accommodations
  • Active travelers using it as a base for summer hiking adventures
  • Skiers looking for an excellent ski lift adjacent location

Final Recommendation

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

Hotel Recort represents an exciting addition to Alta Badia’s luxury scene that completely won us over. The meaningful heritage story, stunning location, and genuine hospitality create an experience we can’t wait to repeat. Sure, those wellness hours need extending, but the overall experience was still so incredible that we’re rating it 9.5 out of 10.

This boutique property offers a memorable mountain retreat with authentic Dolomites character that we fell in love with. We’re already planning our return visit and absolutely recommend it to anyone seeking luxury in the heart of Alta Badia.
